The sun was beaming down at its highest when Paul reached the forest at the edge of Shupert City. His Pokemon had become stronger than before, and they had already fought their first battle. Now it was time to see what he could capture. He entered the forest and searched for the beaten down path. He had heard that if you strayed from the path, you would run into tough, ferocious Pokemon; they had been advised to keep to the path because they were just starting out. Paul thought it would be a good idea to try it out when he was more experienced. He would see where the path would lead him for now. When he found it, he walked confidently ahead, keeping vigilant as he glanced around.

Edmund had gotten lost again. He knew if he found the path he'd be fine but... well he had to find the path!! Andy rolled her eyes and climbed a tree, running out ahead to find the path. When she did she came back and led Edmund back. Wanting to have some fun Edmund had climbed into the trees himself to follow Andy, who giggled in delight when he did. He was a lot lower but he'd grown up in the woods so he was able to keep up... mostly. Andy had to stop and wait for him occasionally. When they reached the path Andy was caught up in going from tree to tree, so didn't really think about what she was doing when she leapt from a branch onto Paul's head and used him as a springboard to reach the next branch.
Edmund tried to keep up but wasn't small and dexterous enough to use Paul as a jumping point, so he fell onto the path next to him, landing on his side and arm. "Ow! Dang it Andy! Come back here!" He got up panting from his excercise and noticed Paul. "Oh. Hey Paul. Didn't think I'd run into you out here." Edmund didn't exactly like Paul very much and didn't smile as much as he would to anyone else. Andy ran back to Edmund and climbed up him onto his shoulder. "If you're here I guess that means there's some pretty strong pokemon around here huh? Or you're just bored with the virtual training machines."

Paul blinked in surprise when he felt pressure on his head. He glanced to both of his sides until he saw an Aipom jumping onto a tree. He was wondering if he should battle it and see how it was when he heard a thump on the ground beside him. It was a trainer. Did he think he was an Aipom? He frowned when he began to talk to him. How did he know his name? The Aipom that had jumped on him seemed to be this trainer's since she climbed onto him. As he continued to talk, Paul continued to give him an odd look. After a long moment, he asked, "Who are you?"

"Eh?" Edmund's face dropped into a confused frown. "You... don't remember... We have like, most of our classes together I think... I always run to class. My clothes are never clean. I don't wear shoes. I carve masks. My name is Edmund Twist..." Edmund felt insulted and exasperated. "Come on, I'm one of the most noticable other guys in school. If I was one of the other guys I'd understand being forgotten, they don't really do a lot but dude. I'm pretty sure we had lunch together at least once!" He reached into his bag and pulled out his eevee mask and carving knife. "I don't think we've ever really talked much but come on. At least put a little effort into thinking about other people."

Paul continued to give Ed a blank stare. "Don't remember," he said when he was through. It was probably true that they've met, seeing as this guy knew, but he obviously hadn't made a good enough impression on Paul for him to remember. He tended to not pay other people much attention unless he had reason to. What was the point unless he had a real reason? The idea of staying to chat did not sit well with him, so he put his hands in his pockets and continued to walk down the path. Seeing as there was only one path, Ed would probably follow. He hoped he wouldn't get in the way. OOC: Sorry, Ed

Edmund watched Paul walk away for a few moments then muttered quietly to himself. He sighed and decieded to just let it go. He then followed Paul along the path, a few yards behind. "Well on the bright side, at least he isn't calling me names." He kept up Paul's pace, kind of curious about what he was doing or if they'd even run into anything. So far edmund hadn't seen anything other than a glimpse of the odd Caterpie or a bird flying way overhead. Just what lived around here anyways? He wanted to live in the woods, maybe not these woods but it'd still be good to know what kinds of pokemon lived around here.

The Axew knew he should not have messed with that Charizard. Now he was stuck in some forest with no way to find his way home. He lived around Lava Cave. A few days prior, a Charizard had tried to move into his territory, so he had taught him a lesson by filling his nest with honey. In the dead of the night, the Charizard had picked him up and flown him to this forest. The Axew could see no tusk marks on the trees, which meant he was far away from his friends and family. How was he ever supposed to get home?
He tensed when he heard movement. He cautiously walked out onto the path on the ground. he was not one to run from danger. He could see a trainer walking in his direction. He did not see trainers much because many did not dare to venture into Lava Cave. He wondered what kind of threat this one posed. It looked like there was another trainer with an Aipom close behind him. The one in front had probably seen him by now, so here was no backing down. He took a fighting stance and growled. <You shall not pass.> He was prepared to attack him if need be.

Paul stopped when he saw the Pokemon. It was an Axew, a Dragon Type. He seemed ready to fight, which was a good sign. He quickly thought about his Pokemon and which one would be the best to fight the Axew. Fire and Grass were weak against Dragon, but Thorn was pretty strong. He wanted to see how well he was improving. "Thorn, stand by for battle!" he cried as he took him out of his Pokeball. "Use Razor Leaf!" It was time to battle.
Thorn's eyes brightened when he came out of his Pokeball and realized where he was. It was a forest! And he was going to battle! This would be fun. He wanted to say 'hi' to the other Pokemon, but he knew Paul would get mad at him, so he quickly took a battle stance instead. He was ready! At his trainer's words, he happily threw leaves from his little one on the top of his head at the Axew. The Axew did not back down when a Turtwig appeared. Thorn seemed a little stronger than him, but the dragon had the type advantage. This would be a good workout for him. He listened attentively for the trainer's command. When he heard it, he waited until he saw the Turtwig's movement, and then he leapt out of the way. He was able to escape the flying leaves with barely a scratch. <Is that all you've got?> he taunted. It was time for him to warm up. He ran towards the Turtwig as quickly as his little feet would carry him. When he got close enough, he extended his claws to Scratch Thorn.

Edmund caught up in time to see the Axew dodge the leaves and stood in awe. "Whoa! Neato!" He started to send Andy to go fight then remembered that Paul was fighting it. He wanted to catch it so bad though... "You got this Paul. But uh... Are you gonna catch it? Because if not I want to." He watched the Axew with great interest. Andy bopped him on the head. <Hey, do I go fight or what?> "Hold on Andy. Paul's the one who started the fight so it's his choice."

Paul was a bit bothered that the Axew got away from the Razor Leaf, that needed to be worked on, but it was early in the battle. He glanced at Ed when he spoke but ignored him, for the Axew was coming towards Thorn. "Dodge it!" When he had successfully dodged, he was able to respond to Ed. "We'll see when I finish this," he said while keeping his eyes on the battling Pokemon. He was going to catch it; however, whether he would keep it or not would depend. He brought his attention back to the battle. "Use Absorb." With the Axew weakened some, it would be easier to attack.
Thorn watched in dismay as the Axew dodged his leaves. <Hey! That's one of my favorite attacks!> He had yet to have it work correctly on an opponent. The sound of Ed and Andy's voice made him want to turn around and greet them, but he knew better than to do that. He was battling; he couldn't get distracted! He wanted to please Paul, so he stayed where he was. When he told him to, he happily ran to the right, away from the dragon. <Yay!> He loved his speed! He spun around and waited for his next instructions. Absorb was his favorite. Green light came out of him and attached themselves to the Axew in order to take away some of his energy. There was no way for the Axew to dodge the Absorb. He growled in frustration when energy was stolen from him. At least it was a grass type move and did not do a terrible amount of damage. He could still win. And now there was another attack he could use more effectively. He stood where he was and sent a wave of dark energy towards the Turtwig. Assurance's power doubled when the user had taken damage. This was going to be good.

Edmund stood back out of respect for Paul and held onto Andy to keep her from causing mischief. His brow furrowed as he tried to asses how the fight was going. "Hm..." Andy squirmed in his arms and smacked his cheek. <I can't see! Your arm is over my eyes! What's happening!?> "SHH, quiet Andy... Thorn looks really tough after all the training Paul's done. But Dragon's resist grass moves so he won't be doing as much damage as he would normally. It looks like his training is making up for it pretty well though." <Oh that's interesting. Sure wish I could SEE it!> Edmund put his hand over her mouth to quiet her so Paul and Thorn could focus. This dragon probably had a trick or two ready for them.
