Gary knew there was nothing he could do about Absorb. It was all over. He was frustrated because the Turtwig had hardly been scratched. How had that been a fair battle? He knew he should be pleased at how long Skipper had managed to hold out, but he could not push down resentment and bitterness, especially after seeing Paul's attitude. He hoped one day they would be able to have a real battle. He would make sure he would not lose.
Skipper gritted his teeth when his Tackle missed again. That had been his last chance! Why was his effort not amounting to anything? He hoped his trainer was proud of him nonetheless. As the Absorb stole the rest of his energy, he wondered if he had disappointed him.
Species: Squirtle Name: Skipper Gender: Male Level: 7 Attacks: Tackle, Tail Whip, Bubble Hit By: Absorb Used: Health: --- Thorn has gained two levels.***
Kiki was impressed with Ed's tactics. However, she had some tricks of her own. She was not going to let him win so easily. "Alice, jump up and use Tackle right away!" This was it. One of them would be going down. She had found the battle fun and exciting.
Alice did not like that Andy was able to dodge her Razor Leaf again. She was going to have to work on that. On the bright side, she was prepared for the Aipom's own attack, or combination of attacks. At the last second, she jumped up in the air as high as she could, barely missing the dangerous tail. Then she aimed her body at Andy for a Tackle. She hoped this would work. At least both of them had gave it their all.

Edmund hadn't lied. That was their last chance at victory in this fight. As soon as he saw Alice jump up and dodge Andy's super strike he pushed the desk next to him aside and ran forward. Andy was knocked back by the finishing tackle and Edmund dove to catch her. "I gotcha!" He grabbed her before she hit the ground and pulled her to his chest. He sat up, a bit teary eyed after seeing his friend take a beating like that but she'd done her best. He hugged her and put her in her pokeball. "Good job Andy. You can rest now." He sat back down at his desk, wiping his eyes and taking a deep breath. Then he smiled and looked back over at Kiki and Alice. "Good fight guys. You did great." With that he silently started filling out his paper as fast as he could. Name: Andy Gender: Female Level: 5 Attacks: Scratch, Tail Whip, Sand-attack Used: Hit by: Tackle Health: -----

<Good fight!> Thorn said as he saw Skipper lose his remaining energy. He thought Skipper was a really good fighter, as well as a great dodger! He jumped up and down until he remembered that his trainer didn't like that. After giving a grin to Gary, he turned to Paul. <How did I do?> His little tail moved back and forth in delight.
When Skipper feinted, Paul took out Thorn's Pokeball out. Then he realized that they still had class, so he put it back. He nodded to Gary. It had not been a very fair battle that would allow one to assess each of the trainers, but he was still glad to win. He wanted to battle again when it wasn't just a class exercise and he actually posed a challenge. For now, he was too weak. He himself was not strong enough either. "Don't get excited about that," he told Thorn before ignoring him to turn back to his paper to see what he needed to write.
Thorn's ears and tail drooped at Paul's response. Then he saw Alice and Andy had finished their battle, and it looked like Alice had won! Brightening up, he raced over to them. <Good job! I won too. It was fun!> He looked at the Chikorita with a bright smile on his face.
Skipper has gained 1 level.
Alice has gained 2 levels. She now knows Poisonpowder.
Andy has gained 1 level.

Gary found himself irked at Paul's attitude towards his Pokemon. "Every victory is important," he commented casually as he filled out the sheet of paper. "Weren't you paying attention in class?" Paul was probably going to fail the assignment. Maybe that would teach him a lesson. Gary bet he would fail the whole class. He lowered his paper and smiled at Thorn. "Good job, little guy." He saw the Turtwig run over to the Chikorita, and he hoped his trainer would not try to stop him.
"Thanks," Kiki said to Ed, smiling at him. "You and Andy fought really hard too." The Aipom had been quite impressive, especially considering the level disadvantage. She was sure that, with a little trainer, the two of them would make a great team.
Alice smiled up at Ed. <Thank you.> She turned around when Thorn approached. She felt happy to see him. Good thing they both had won so that they could still talk to each other. <Thanks. Congratulations. Do you feel closer to your trainer now?> That had been the point of the assignment, right?

Edmund was having trouble focusing on his assignment. All he could think about was how close they had come to winning. He needed to train. He could tell everyone else had done some, their pokemon seemed tougher. He sat back in his chair and looked as his paper. He was going to train. He didn't want this to happen again if he could help it. He looked at Andy's pokeball and rolled it around in his hands. "One day you'll be strong enough to take on anything. I believe in you Andy." He smiled and put the ball away.

Paul frowned. He turned away from Gary and found a spot to fill out the paper. He remembered what Miss Riverton had said in class, and he knew he needed to address an issue at some point. Unfortunately, he could not ignore it; he would be foolish and weak to do so. With careful thought, he would figure it out. When he finished the worksheet, he looked for the teacher. If they were done, could they leave?
Thorn's smile grew when Alice congratulated him. It faded, however, when she mentioned his trainer. His expression grew uncertain and he looked down. <I'm...I'm not quite sure.> He had become happier from the battle and he wanted to be closer to Paul, but...something was in the way. <He doesn't seem to want to get close to me at all.> He looked up at Alice with a small frown.

Miss Riverton walked around, watching the battles. After awhile, she saw that two of the battles were over and the students were filling out their sheets. She decided it was time to dismiss the students who were finished. "Once you complete the assignment," she said in a loud voice to be heard over the battling, "you may hand your papers into me and leave." She hoped they had all learned something from this experience.
Gary heard the teacher's words and nodded to himself. He was almost finished. When he completed the last question, he picked up his backpack and walked to the front of the room. "Great class," he said to Miss Riverton as he handed her his assignment.
Miss Riverton smiled at him. "Thank you. Have a good day." She watched as he walked out of the room.
Kiki continued to work on her assignment while Alice talked with Thorn. <I wonder if the teacher knows how trainers bond with Pokemon..> She paused. <Are we going to go with Andy's plan? We can think of something else later.>

Edmund stood up and picked up his sheet of paper. He handed it in with a slightly sad smile, though after loseing his first battle it was understandable. "Thank you miss Riverton. I'll be sure to put what I've learned into practice." He handed her the paper and started to walk for the door then stopped. He turned around, went to a window, opened it up and jumped out of it, taking off into a sprint when he stood up.
