The Growlithe was knocked over by Thorn, but it quickly got back up. It opened its mouth and shot fire against the turtle Pokemon, using Ember.

<AH! Help! Help! Help! FIRE!> The little grass Pokemon ran around in a circle as he tried to avoid the attack, but he got caught.
Paul sighed exasperatedly. "It's only fire! It's not going to hurt you anymore!" He barked. He gritted his teeth. It was time he learned to conquest his fear of fire type Pokemon. "Use Tackle!"
Thorn turned around slowly to face the fierce Growlithe. <Uh...sure. No problem.> He shook his whole body to clear his thoughts. Here goes nothing! He charged at the fire Pokemon with all the strength he had with the thoughts of defeating his second fire type Pokemon soon.

Tee Growlithe was hit by thorn again. It growled as it stood up. The Turtwig was still close to it, sot he Growlithe tried to Bite Thorn.

Thorn was delighted at the contact again. <Yeah!>
"Look out!" Paul shouted.
<What?> By the time Thorn looked back at the Growlithe, its teeth were already clamping down. <Ah!>
Paul gritted his teeth. "Stop getting distracted!" When would he learn? "You need to focus. Get away and then use Tackle again!" It frustrated him that the only attack Thorn would know for a while was Tackle. It was pathetic.
<Okay, I got it> Thorn got away from the Growlithe as quick as he could and then turned around to try another tackle.

The Growlithe snapped its jaws at Thorn as he got away. It was too distracted to notice the oncoming Tackle. It was thrown off its feet and rolled around. It appeared dizzy when I stood up. This time, it used Leer against the Turtwig by giving him an intimidating look with its sharp eyes.

Paul was satisfied with Thorn's successful tackle. It appeared the Growlithe was getting worn out. "Use tackle!"
Thorn shrank back from the leer. At his trainer's command, though, he stood up tall, for he did not want to be reprimanded again. He bravely ran towards the Growlithe once more, preparing to tackle.

The Growlithe was knocked over again. It got up even slower this time. It stayed were it was and opened its mouth, spitting flames of Ember at Thorn.

This time, Paul was ready for Ember. There was one more useful attack of Thorn's. "Withdraw into your shell!"
Thorn tensed at the sight of fire once more. What? My shell? Of course! As quick as he could, he withdrew himself into his little shell. He could feel the burn of the fire on him, but it was not nearly as bad as the first time. As soon as it was done, he got out and prepared for another command.
Good. It worked. "Use Tackle again!" Paul said. It did not seem like it would take much more to end this.

The Growlithe growled when its attack did little damage. It did not have the strength to resist another tackle. When it was hit, it fell over, defeated. A mechanical voice said, "Congratulations, you have one. Take your helmets off if you are finished."
Thorn has gained 2 levels. He now knows Absorb.

Thorn grew excited when the Growlithe didn't get back up and the voice said he had won. <Yay!> He jumped up and down. Then he remembered that Paul did not like that, so he stopped. He looked expectantly at his trainer, hoping he would tell him he fought well.
Paul rolled his eyes at Thorn's excitement. This was going well, so he wasn't going to stop. They were allowed to battle one more Pokemon. While he waited for another Pokemon to appear, he took out his Pokedex and looked at the new move Thorn could use. Absorb. It looked pretty useful. Finally, something other than tackle.

The Growlithe was zapped out of thing air. After a minute of pause, a new Pokemon appeared: a male Nidoran. The Nidoran took a fighting stance against Thorn, waiting for him to make a move.

A Nidoran was a poison Pokemon, but it was still Thorn's weakness. It was switching it up a little. That actually worked to their advantage; it was a chance to battle another kind of Pokemon. Paul wondered if Pokemon could actually be paralyzed from poison in this virtual machine. "Alright. Thorn, use Absorb!" He needed to get his health up after battling two Pokemon. Absorb was the perfect attack to do just that.
Thorn looked at the Nidoran curiously. He was about the same size as him! He liked that; he wasn't scary huge like that Growlithe. Absorb? He knew he had to do his best to use this new attack, even though he wasn't that sure what it was. Luckily, his instincts took over, and something glowing came out of him and moved to the Nidoran to drain its health. The Nidoran twitched when the attack absorbed its energy. It gave Thorn an angry glare before rushing forward to attack. Just when it neared the Pokemon, it lowered its head to hit him with its horn.

Once the Nidoran's energy was drained, the light went back to the Turtwig. Thorn liked the feeling it gave him. He could feel himself becoming re-energized! <Yeah!> he cheered.
"Focus!" Paul shouted. They couldn't let Absorb go to waste, especially not because of being distracted. "Dodge it!" he commanded, seeing the attack the Nidoran was aiming at him.
Thorn immediately quieted himself and looked back to the other Pokemon. Filled with new energy, even if it was not a lot, he was able to jump out of the way of the oncoming horn. He didn't want to get hit by that. It looked sharp!
Paul did not pause once Thorn dodged the attack. "Tackle, now!"
Thorn turned and ran right at the fake Nidoran as fast as he could. He couldn't let his trainer down. Thorn Level: 9 Attacks: Tackle, Withdraw, Absorb Hit By: Used: Tackle Health: Yellow

The Nidoran attempted to jump away, but Thorn was too quick for it. It quickly got up, though, and ran forward so that it could initiate another attack. When it was close enough, it turned around and attempted to kick Thorn twice in succession with its back feet.
