Gary had heard the machines in this room could train your Pokemon. Well, we're about to find out. he thought as he walked over to a machine with Skipper. He grabbed a helmet and knelt down next to his Pokemon. The Squirtle turned away. "Don't worry, it won't hurt you," Gary said reassuringly.
Skipper hesitated before nodding confidently. He let his trainer put the helmet on his head. Gary then put the other helmet on his own head. He was instantly in what appeared to be an all white room. Skipper was standing beside him, looking around in wonder. Gary waited for a virtual Pokemon to appear so that they could begin training.

A Treecko appeared out of nowhere in front of the Squirtle and trainer. It just stood there, waiting for Skipper to attack.

Skipper frowned when he saw the Treecko. he didn't like grass Pokemon. But at least it wasn't an electric type. Those were way worse.
"It's ok, you can do it," Gary said encouragingly. This was a neat way to get Pokemon to face their fears of their type weakness without actually having to encounter them. "Use Tackle!"
Skipper nodded. <Alright, let's go!> He ran towards the Treeko on all four feet, hoping to slam his body and hard shell into it. His tail hung loose behind him.

The Treecko jumped out of the way to avoid most of the damage. From the hit, he spun around, but got back on to his feet, ready to fight back. He ran straight at Skipper and jumped up, ready to pound him with his tail.

Skipper frowned as he watched the Treecko jump away from him. That wasn't what he intended at all. He gasped when the grass Pokemon came back towards him. he tried to jump out of the way, but ended up being crushed by his tail. He groaned as he stood back up.
"Don't give up!" Gary called. "Use Tail Whip and then Tackle!" Unfortunately, Skipper would not learn another attack until he got to level seven. This would have to do for now.
Skipper turned around and wagged his tail cutely. This would lower the Treecko's defense. After he was done, he quickly turned around and raced towards his opponent again.

The Treecko's defense stat lowered, so when he tried to get out of the way of the tackle, he failed. Standing up slowly, he ran with as much force as it had after the tackle for another pound with his tail.

Skipper was ready this time. He jumped out of the way just before the Treecko hit him with his tail. He grinned in satisfaction. He looked at his trainer for his next order, although he thought he could guess what it would be.
Gary nodded. "Great job! Give it another Tackle!"
Skipper grinned. <Here I come!> The Squirtle ran towards the Treeck yet again. He wanted to win!

(poor Charmander ) The Treecko let out a wail as Skipper's body slammed into it. The Pokemon got up slower than before, looking weaker. Running at full speed once again, it aimed its foreleg at the Squirtle in an attempt to give another blow.

Skipper's confidence had been boosted by his success. He felt full of energy as he dodged the attack, barely missing the Treeko. He stood up and shook himself to clear his head. Then he was ready!
Gary nodded in approval. The Squirtle was learning well. "Use Tail Whip!"
Skipper was slightly disappointed that he did not get to tackle the grass type again, but he supposed his trainer knew best. He turned around and wagged his tail at the Treeko.

The Treecko's defense lowered. It then ran at Skipper and leapt at him, using his tail to strike.

Instead of dodging again, Gary decided to test something else out this time. "Get inside your shell!" he ordered.
Skipper quickly ducked into his shell. The Treecko hit him and it hurt, but it was not as bad as it had been before; he would survive. This could be a good way to lessen the effects of an attack when he did not have time to get out of the way. He got out of his shell and stood, ready to fight.
"Good," Gary said, nodding in approval. "Now Tackle."
Skipper was ready. He ran on all fours towards the grass type, using as much energy as he could to slam into his opponent.

The Treecko leapt back after hitting the shell. It did not have a chance to move as Skipper slammed into it. It got up very slowly and gave the Squirtle an intimidating leer with sharp eyes.

Skipper shivered at the Leer. This was not good. He looked back at is trianer anxiously.
"It's alright," Gary said gently. "Use Tackle again." The Treecko seemed to be weakening. Hopefully, the battle would be over soon.
Skipper ran at the Treecko again. It was not planning on doing something dangeorus after that Leer, was it? He just had to hope his own attack would not miss its mark.

The Treecko was struck by Skipper. It hit the floor and did not get up. Within the space, a mechanical voice said, "Congratulations, you have won. Take your helmets off if you are finished." Skipper has gained 2 levels.

Skipper jumped up and down in excitement when he realized he had won. They had been fun!
Gary smiled down at the Squirtle. "Great job, buddy. That's enough for you for now." The two of them took off their helmets, and they were suddenly in a different room. Gary returned Skipper to his Pokeball and brought out another one. A curious Farfetch'd appeared on the floor. "Ready to train?"
<Ok,> Scout said. He frowned at the helmet. How was he supposed to put that on?
Gary bent down and placed the helmet on the bird's head. Then he put his own helmet on again. A second later, he was back in the training space with a new Pokemon.
