Meowthers purred when Zoey pet him. Upon asking him if he had a trainer, the young Meowth stepped back, sat down, and frowned. He lowered his head and looked at the ground. <Not anymore. I've had two trainers. They both abandoned me.> He glanced at Flower. <Fight? Fighting's fun!> He swished his tail back and forth. <But my previous trainers said I was not vary good. That's why they got rid of me.> He frowned again. This girl seemed nicer than the trainers he had previously run into. Maybe she would like to take him home?

Flower smiled when he said he loved to fight but frowned at his last statement. <Really? That's terrible!> She sat down next to Meowthers. <You need a real home. One where your trainer will love you and take good care of you.> She looked up at Zoey.
Zoey frowned. "I'll take that as a no. You poor thing!" She thought hard. This Meowth seems to have been through a lot. She would love to take him home; he seemed very sweet. Didn't they have to battle first? She shrugged. It's not like there was a handbook or something. She looked at Flower and then at Meowthers. "Would you like to join our family?"
Flower smiled. <We could battle first if you'd like.> She shrugged. <You don't have to. You're more than welcome to help us capture another Pokemon.>

<Yes!> Meowthers said to Flower. <That's what I want! But no one likes me.> He shook his head sadly. His ears perked up when Zoey asked him to join them. <Really? Can I?> He glanced at Flower. <Sure, we can battle.> He looked at Zoey. <You might want to know how I battle before you take me home. Everyone else did.> He turned and took a fighting stance against the Mudkip.

Zoey smirked when the Meowth took a fighting stance. Good. This will help me know more about his personality and fighting abilities. She nodded. "Ok, then. Let's do this." She smiled when she saw how eager Flower was also. Flower seemed like she loved to fight too. "Flower, use Tackle!"
<Don't think I'll go easy on ya.> Flower murmured before backing up. <This is going to be fun!> She raced forward, determined to hit her target. I wonder if he's stronger than his previous trainers gave him credit for, she thought as she ran.

Meowsers happily bounded out of the way. He spun around and ran back towards Flower. <Wee!> When he got close to her he unsheathed his claws, hoping to Scratch her. He wanted to prove that he could be a fun and strong Pokemon at the same time.

Flower was too stunned at her missing the cat that she wasn't prepared for the sharp claws that were aiming right at her. <Whoa!> Her lame attempt at fleeing was taken too late. She leapt back, shaking her mistake off. <That's how you want to play, huh?> The Mudkip smirked in amusement at the enthusiastic Meowth before her. She glanced up at her trainer quickly, afraid to look away from Meowthers too long. <What now?>
Zoey laughed. This fight was turning out to be really interesting; the Meowth seemed to be having fun. She focused her mind on the battling moves both Pokemon used. "Nice job, there," she said warmly to Meowthers. "You're really quick." She turned back to Flower. "Ok, now use Growl and then Tackle!"
Flower nodded. <Feel my wrath!> She teased before a low, growl began forming, lowering her opponent's attack status. Satisfied, she neatly raced forward, heading in for a tackle. She wasn't gonna make it easy for him to beat her.

Meowsers swished his tail and smiled. He liked the Mudkip. He hoped they could eventually become friends. That would be splendid! The Meowth shivered at the growl. That he did not like. Luckily, he had an attack like that as well. He did not use it though. He would save it for later. He tried to jump out of the way, but he felt Flower's body smash into him. <Hey!> he cried. It was time for a better move. He did not know if it would work, but he had to try. He turned and raced at the Mudkip, his jaws wide to bite her.

"Great job!" Zoey said when Flower's attack worked.
Flower grew excited at her success. <Gotch ya!> She narrowed her eyes when the Meowth came running back at her. <Not so fast!> She made to move away, but she had started too late. <Ow!>
"Look out!" Zoey bit her lip as Flower got bit. When the Mudkip shook off the bite and took a battle stance once more, Zoey smiled. "You've got this. Growl and tackle again!"
Growling, Flower dashed toward Meowthers as fast as she could. She was going to win this!

Meowthers shivered again at the growl. <Will you stop that?> It was no fun. He did not have time to get out of the way of the tackle. He grunted as he fell to his side. He slowly stood up, feeling dizzy. <We're not done yet,> he said with a small smile. He decided to try Scratch again. He ran towards the Mudkip on three paws, the fourth raised to attack.

Flower smirked. <Sorry, but no can do!> She was thrilled she had tackled him again. She knew she had to pay attention, though, so she cleared her mind and focused on the Meowth. She jumped out of the way right before he could scratch her.
Zoey smiled. "Good job dodging! Now, use tackle." They were pretty limited on what they could do with only tackle and growl, but they would make it work. Hard work and training with what they had would pay off.
Flower turned towards Meowthers and ran at him again, determined to get him a third time. This was fun!

Meowthers was too dizzy to get out of the way. He was hit again, and he was sent sprawling. <Ow,> he mumbled. What could he do now? His attacks were not strong enough; he would have to try to weaken the Mudkip first. He got back up on all four paws and growled. That would show her!

Flower shivered at the growl and lowered herself to the ground. She didn't like the attack turning back on her.
"It's okay," Zoey said. "Go for another tackle!" She thought this was going well. She watched Meowthers curiously, wondering what he would do next.
The Mudkip rose on her feet, determined not to allow the Meowth to get her off her game. She ran forward again, aiming for a tackle.

Meowthers was bowled over again. <Hey, I can do better,> he said as he stood up. He looked at Zoey anxiously. What is she stopped liking him because he kept getting hit? He had to show that he was strong! He thought another Bite attack would do it. He grinned wide, showing Flower his pointy teeth, before running after her, opening is jaws to bite her.

<Take that!> Flower exclaimed as her tackle succeeded. She was having a blast.
Zoey saw Meowther's expression and wondered what was wrong. He seemed to be fine, though, for he prepared to attack again. She was glad he was persevering, even though he kept getting attacked. That was a very good thing.
<Ah!> Flower tried to get away from those sharp teeth, but she couldn't. <Ow!> she exclaimed. She bounded away from the Meowth after he bit her.
"You can do it," Zoey said. "Use Growl and then Tackle!"
"Right." Flower tried to shake off the attack, but she was getting tired. They had to finish this, though. She was going to defeat the Meowth! She turned around to face him again and let out a loud, fierce growl. Then, she ran forward for a Tackle.

Meowthers hopped up and down in excitement when his attack worked. <Yay!> Maybe he could do this after all. Perhaps this trainer could teach him how to become stronger. It would certainly be better than trying to survive on his own. He was too distracted by his own thoughts to notice Flower's attack coming. <Ow,> he mumbled as he rolled over on his back. He quickly got back on his feet and thought of his next move. He was still relatively close to the Mudkip, so he reached out his claw and tried to scratch her.
